Which size for your room?
Choose a rug that sits under at least the front legs of your sofa and chairs. It ties the seating together.
Place the rug under the lower two-thirds of the bed so you step onto it on both sides.
Chairs should stay on the rug when pulled out. Add 24 inches to your table on every side.
A runner should leave a strip of bare floor on each side and stop short of doors.
A play-zone rug works best in an open spot, away from the door swing.
How to measure your space
- Measure the area you want to cover, not the whole room.
- Mark the corners with painter’s tape and walk around it for a day.
- Leave 12 to 18 inches of bare floor between the rug and the walls.
- Between two sizes, the larger one usually looks better.
